The Snowless Winter Olympic
This is the winter I’ve been waiting for, since Clara convinced me to move to Canada by telling me it never snows in Vancouver, it’s been one year worst than the other. The last two years in particular, I heard from my neighbors “we never get snow like this”, all the while I’m going “yeah, right, this is Canada”.
But this year, things finally turned around, I think it snowed for one day, and the snow didn’t stick. For a California native, this is AWESOME !! Don’t have to worry about slipping, falling, icy stuff.
However, this also happens to be the year of the 2010 Winter Olympics, which is not so good for no snow. According to unconfirmed reports, people are starting to mountain bike in North Vancouver, also the site where they’ll host Olympic events. My neighbor also noticed her tulips are starting to show. It’s one thing to not have snow, it’s another thing when nature’s saying “Spring is here”.
My Olympic prediction, a lot of people will come, find out how bad public transportation is (For the last month, I can’t remember a week where the skytrain I ride didn’t have some kind of delay, they are obviously not prepared),how expensive housing is, and how many homeless guys are wondering our streets, our only saving grace might be the visitors will be amazed at how beautiful spring time is in Vancouver.
